FASHIONNED

Acute and obtuse timepieces
Since I've stopped wearing watches and I don't have a cell phone, I've really started to value those people who you can ask on the street for the time. On the other hand, there are also the people who are doing everyone a favour, and you don't even have to bother them. They're like a public service. In an economics textbook, they would be called a positive externality.

Then, there is also the pocket watch, which is one of these things where you could probably pull off in an ensemble with a monocle. Also, you know how in 1994 when all the guys went all skater and they had chains hanging from their front to back pocket? This could be almost the same, except daintier. And from your belt loop.

FASHUNNED

One thing you may have noticed recently is the increasing number of women wearing clothes that are too tight. There are a couple reasons for this. One could be that people are trying on clothes less than they have been in the past. This might be the case, given that nowadays people are more pressed for time. The second reason, is that since people are getting more and more obese as the days go by, manufacturers are trying to make us feel better by making sizes bigger than they actually are. My suspicions were confirmed by this article in the Economist, which complains about the lack of standardization in clothing sizes. So what is the implication of this? There exists a large population of disenchanted women, who, believing that they are size small at say, the Gap, are wearing small at every other retailer, and refuse to wear a larger size. This is a negative externality, since there are onlookers who have to endure the onslaught of bra fat, jelly rolls, and camel toes. Shudder.

Mark my words, Indian beaded slippers are going to be worn by every 8 year old in the suburbs by the end of the summer, becoming last year's Chinese mesh and beaded slipper. Keep them inside dudes.
