FASHIONNED
Wapos
is this little gem of a clothing line that I found in the now
defunct store, Findz, that was previously located in Kensington Market.
Wapos
is designed by Jody Mclennan. She is fresh out of design school,
loves Betsey Johnson, and the clothes
still have that endearing DIY vibe to them. The clothes are quirky, distinctive, with just a subtle
hint of sexiness.
You can find Wapos stuff at Wink in Toronto,162A Spadina (at Queen). 416

Fanny Packs
One
thing that I'm tired of people making fun of is fanny packs. The
earliest recollection I have of fanny packs is when I went to New York with
my parents when I was about 7, and we were lost in the bowels of Harlem. I remember
seeing my mom's neon yellow fanny pack, which I thought at the time screamed,
"I'm a tourist from the suburbs of Toronto, just mug me now and spare me
the pain!" Little did I know. My mum asked this really scary
looking dude for directions, and he was no doubt strapped, but you know
what? She was left unscathed. Not only because you shouldn't judge
people by their looks, but because he recognized the power of the fanny
pack. No one messes with fanny packs. Not even the toughest drug
lord in the Bronx and 8 mafia bosses would mess with the fanny pack. When
you have fanny power, you're untouchable.
Capes
I
was reading a copy of Elle a couple months ago that said that Capes were the
look of the season. At first, I was laughing uncontrollably, thinking,
what? So are we going to run around
the room pretending we can fly now?" And then I thought about it for a second,
and realized, "Hey, that sounds kind of fun."

FASHUNNED
Comfortable Shoes with a Heel
There has been this weird ironic backlash with shoe designers, I never
fully understood this whole adding stiletto heels to comfortable shoes
phenomenon.
First it was the Timbs with the heel, then, they had those hideous sneaker shoes
with stilettos on them. Just don't touch my Rockports.
Freckles
What's
this kerfuffle with freckles? I was reading one of those
pretentiously glossy hoo-ha fashion magazines the other day that said,
"Freckles are the hottest new trend!" and then there was this little
bit about how you could get them yourself. If you ask me, I think people
should start making acne trendy.
"Nice Zit."
"Thanks! I got it
yesterday."
Jean Jewels
These
things remind me of those accessories that came with Barbies that you clipped
into their hair, but instead, you're supposed to clip it into your jeans belt
loop and it's supposed to be sexy. What is even sexier is that they have
Lance Bass, Dianne Warren, and Mariah Carey wearing Jean Jewels. Midlife crises reek of
sexiness.
